About Copake New York
By CEAB on 2/9/2012 8:48 AM
Sky Farm, located at 227 Sky Farm Road in Copake, is a small, personal, and old fashioned equestrian farm that offers training, instruction, pleasure riding, and boarding. We are home to riders of “all walks of life”. Our goal is to provide a safe and fun learning environment for horse and rider. We are very proud to say that we welcome anyone who wishes to learn how to ride. We do many competitions, but we offer pleasure riding as well. We provide clients with a feeling of trust, but at the same time helping them reach personal goals.

There are 17 horses living at Sky Farm right now! They range in size and breed from ex-race horses descending the great Secretariat, to a 40 inch tall mini-cross. Most equine residents are school horses, others belong to boarders, a few are free leases, and one stallion. They are all amazing animals with personalities all their own. The majority of horses and ponies were adopted or rescued and retrained for various equine jobs!

The horses live outside almost 24/7, with the exception of extreme weather or rehabilitation. We do not have running water so every horse drinks from a stream, pond, or brook. They really enjoy playing in the water during hot summer months! This is a gift for horses because many facilities do not have the resources to allow them to do so or to be turned out for long periods of time. Many horses live in stalls most of their lives with the exception of exercise and brief turnout. This is something at Sky Farm that we are strongly against. Although, a few spoiled ones are allowed to stay indoors during the rain!
